The Customer: Birdville Independent School District
Industry: Primary and Secondary Education
Founded on a vision of “Excellence, Integrity, and Service,” the 4,000 staff members of Birdville Independent School District (Birdville ISD) serve over 23,800 pre-K-12 students across 40 buildings.
The Challenge
Outdated Printing Operations, Mounting Issues
Birdville ISD is expansive, boasting over 750 printers. Unfortunately, as its legacy infrastructure, systems, and setups had grown outdated, the district’s eight-person IT team had become increasingly besieged by printer issues. Cumbersome technical issues, such as printer mapping, sucked away most of their time from the more valuable work of resolving teachers’ technical issues and enabling exceptional learning experiences in the classroom.
In addition, legitimate document security and confidentiality concerns had become nearly impossible to address.
The district needed a solution that could update its infrastructure and lessen the amount of time wasted on technical issues, while also keeping confidential documents secure.
The Solution
Enabling Easy Issue Resolution and Document Security in the Cloud
Birdville ISD’s Chief Technology Officer, Dave Lamson, learned about Vasion Print’s centrally managed direct IP printing approach and immediately reached out for help reining in their printing issues and streamlining their processes. The district started with Vasion’s on-premise version but soon moved to its SaaS version, which allowed it to manage all of its printing operations in the cloud. This transition was completed in less than two months.
Once Vasion Print was up and running, IT team members were able to proactively monitor printer performance and respond to printer needs.
In addition, staff members could go to the Vasion Self-Service Installation Portal to find a convenient map of the building in which they worked and easily map a printer they wanted to use without requiring any help from the IT department. If a staff member found that one printer had issues, they could easily locate and map to another printer on their own.
Using Vasion Print empowered staff to resolve their most common printing issues, allowing IT team members to work on projects that would add more value to the district and its students’ learning experiences.
“They no longer have to map printers,” says Kelli Montgomery, the district’s director of digital learning. “Those technical problems were taken off their plates, and they were allowed to spend more time helping teachers design and deliver better learning experiences for students.”
With Vasion’s Secure Release Printing feature, the Birdville ISD IT team was able to easily provide document security and confidentiality across the district’s printers.
The Results
A Soaring Uptime Rate and Better Classroom Experiences
Moving setup updates and printing operations to the cloud ensured document security and confidentiality and enabled all staff members to set up printers on their own through Vasion’s Self-Service Installation Portal. This resulted in the Birdville ISD IT team seeing a 98% uptime rate across the district.
