Staying Agile in a Changing World: The AI Advantage With Vasion

In a recent interview with SecureITWorld, Ryan Wedig, CEO and Co-Founder of Vasion, a leader in content digitization and process automation, shared his extensive two-decade perspective on the evolution and future of business technology.

Wedig recounted his initial step into IT, emphasizing the pivotal moment he connected with his business partner and the intellectual curiosity of the early IT community. He underscored the necessity of deep technical understanding for effective leadership in the sector.

As CEO, Wedig stressed the paramount importance of anticipating market transitions.

"The number one challenge...is to understand what is the next market transition and to stay ahead of it. If you miss a market transition, the best technology in the world becomes old really fast."

Addressing document management, Wedig stated, "...it's table stakes to be able to make a dumb document...intelligent. The market transition is moving towards intelligent workflow," highlighting the critical integration of AI and the need for adaptable platforms through strategic partnerships.

Wedig emphasized Vasion's commitment to truly understanding customer needs, contrasting this with acquisition-driven models. He also highlighted their "follow the sun" support model, leveraging a global team of engineers to provide comprehensive assistance.

Discussing print automation, Wedig identified significant opportunities in addressing security vulnerabilities of traditional print servers and the shift towards "Output Automation"—automating workflows beyond basic print management, critiquing the trend of simply migrating outdated software to the cloud without fundamental re-architecture.

Wedig articulated the evolution of automation from digitization to task automation, then hyper automation, and now the critical phase of "orchestrated automation." He argued for integrated platforms that reduce silos and security risks associated with disparate point solutions.

"...we need to move away from hyper automation...into orchestrated automation, where we start to build platforms that reduce the number of point products required..."

Wedig briefly touched on the importance of clearly defined core values in fostering a culture of innovation within Vasion.

For new entrepreneurs, Wedig advised self-awareness regarding their inherent strengths, whether in optimizing existing models or driving original innovation. For the latter, he stressed humility and authenticity over manufactured appearances.
