Sightsavers: 30 Countries, One IT Team, Zero Print Headaches

Image
It just works. There’s really no simpler answer than that. Before, printing would be a dread…Now I rarely go into PrinterLogic for anything other than a new printer install. It’s set up, it works, and we don’t have to worry about it. That’s freed up time for other projects and tickets that we just wouldn’t have had without it.

The Numbers

5 min

Printer deployment time down from 2 weeks to 5 minutes.

2 min

Helpdesk task time down from 20 minutes to 2 minutes.

3-4 x/year

Platform access needed only 3-4 times per year.

The Summary

A three-person infrastructure team at Sightsavers manages everything from networks to information security across 30+ countries in Africa and Asia. On top of those responsibilities, print management was consuming hours they didn’t have.
After adopting PrinterLogic, printer deployments dropped from two weeks to five minutes. Helpdesk tasks that took 15 to 20 minutes now take under two. Those results have been achieved with a platform that is only accessed by management three to four times a year—because it simply doesn’t need more attention than that.

Customer: Sightsavers

Sightsavers is an international charity headquartered in the U.K. Founded to protect sight and fight preventable blindness, the organization has expanded its mission to include inclusive education for children with disabilities and advocacy for the rights of women, girls, and people with disabilities.

Industry: Non-Profit

The Challenge

Global Infrastructure, Lean Team, Zero Margin for Overhead

For a three-person team accountable for the full infrastructure stack across dozens of countries, every hour matters. Before PrinterLogic, print management was a disproportionate drain on both time and focus for the Sightsavers team.
Every printer installation required someone physically present. New office hardware meant scheduling conflicts, delayed deployments, and staff pulled away from higher-priority work the moment a print issue surfaced. Deployments routinely stretched across days, sometimes weeks.
“It could take up to two weeks to get a printer installed on all the local devices, because everything was done manually. People had to drop everything the moment someone came in and couldn’t print.”
— Kevin O’Driscoll, Infrastructure Team, Sightsavers
Staff who moved between offices accumulated 20 or more printers on their devices, with no reliable way to know which one applied to their current location. The helpdesk spent significant time chasing absent staff, scheduling installs, and fielding urgent requests that derailed other work.
That kind of overhead adds up fast.

The Solution

Centralized, Automated Print Management That Runs Itself

Sightsavers has used PrinterLogic for over three years. Initial setup took about a week, primarily spent tracking down accurate printer information from offices worldwide—the list they had was completely out of date. Once configured, the platform took off.
PrinterLogic is deployed using IP address ranges tied to each office location. When a device connects within a known range, the correct printer deploys automatically. When it leaves that range, the printer is removed—eliminating the stale printer lists that had caused persistent confusion for traveling staff.
Print access is managed by group, with granular control over which users can print to which devices, including restrictions on color printing by role. PrinterLogic’s self-updating agent means the security team doesn’t need to chase down client updates across a globally distributed endpoint environment, something Kevin’s security manager specifically called out as a meaningful win:
"My security manager loves the fact that the agent self-updates automatically. Have we missed another update? No—it does it automatically.”

The Results

The results of implementing PrinterLogic were immediate and lasting. Sightsavers experienced improvements in these four key areas after deploying Vasion:
1

Printer Deployments: Two Weeks to Five Minutes

When an office receives new hardware, the team collects the make, model, and IP address, configures PrinterLogic, and the deployment is complete—no on-site presence required.
“Within five minutes, the whole office is ready to print.”
— Kevin O’Driscoll, Infrastructure Team, Sightsavers
2

Dramatically Reduced Helpdesk Volume

Print-related support tickets have dropped significantly. Helpdesk staff no longer manage printer installations, and access control changes that previously took 15 to 20 minutes now take under two minutes in PrinterLogic. When issues do arise (such as a printer resetting after a power outage) PrinterLogic’s visibility into expected IP addresses means troubleshooting takes minutes rather than hours.
3

A Better Experience for Traveling Staff

Employees no longer carry 20-plus printers on their devices when moving between offices. PrinterLogic’s IP-based deployment means staff can walk into any office and print immediately, with the correct printer already available and irrelevant ones already removed.
4

Strategic Capacity Returned to the Team

“It’s not that we forget—it’s that we don’t have to worry about it. And that’s genuinely valuable…You should use ‘it just works’ as a tagline.”
— Kevin O’Driscoll, Infrastructure Team, Sightsavers
The reduction in print overhead has freed the team to focus on projects that move the organization’s mission forward.

Stop Managing Printing. Start Ignoring It.

Most IT leaders know printing is a problem. Few expect it to simply disappear from their operational surface. For Sightsavers, a three-person team supporting 30-plus countries went from two-week deployments and a steady stream of print tickets to checking the platform a handful of times a year. For a team already stretched across networks, security, and global infrastructure, removing an entire category of overhead isn’t a minor convenience—it’s a genuine return on strategic capacity.
