Almost every prospect Michael "Benny" Bennett talks to has the same reaction: disbelief, followed by genuine interest. In this episode, Vasion's Business Development Representative joins host Channon to share what nearly eight years of frontline conversations have taught him about print server frustration — and why "can you really get rid of my print servers?" is one of the most common questions he hears. From trade show floors to cold outreach calls, Benny breaks down the pain points behind distributed, centralized, and direct IP print models, and walks through a real customer example where eliminating print servers cut help desk tickets by nearly 100%. It's a first-hand look at why print server elimination has become the natural starting point for digital transformation.
In this episode:
Introductions
Channon, from Vasion's customer marketing team, hosts Michael "Benny" Bennett, a Business Development Representative at Vasion who's spent nearly eight years in the company, most recently focused on the state, local government, and education (SLED) sector.
What prospects really say about print servers
At trade shows and during cold outreach, Benny consistently hears the same frustration: prospects joke about wanting to destroy their print servers "with a baseball bat." When Vasion presents its solution, the reaction is almost always disbelief followed by real interest.
The pain points across print infrastructure models
Benny breaks down where organizations get stuck: distributed models require costly on-site IT support, centralized models risk taking down the whole print environment with a single server failure, and direct IP setups avoid servers but create unmanageable driver deployments with no real oversight.
How Vasion solves it
Vasion offers centrally managed direct IP printing through a cloud-based SaaS model, giving organizations a single pane of glass for visibility and permissions management across all three approaches.
A real-world result
A large Texas school district had roughly 2,000 print-related help desk tickets in the year before implementing PrinterLogic. After implementation, that number dropped to four, a 99.7% reduction.
Print server elimination as the first step
Benny positions eliminating print servers as the entry point into Vasion's broader Intelligent Print Automation (IPA) platform, which follows a modernize, consolidate, and automate journey. Beyond servers, organizations reduce hidden costs tied to hardware upkeep, licensing, driver management, and manual workflows, while also rethinking whether certain documents need to be printed at all.
Why adoption starts from the ground up
Sysadmins and IT staff are often the first to see the value, since eliminating print servers directly reduces their workload, including late-night help desk calls from end users who can't print. That bottom-up buy-in is a strong signal the solution delivers real value.
Closing takeaway
A modern IT environment can't be built on legacy print infrastructure. Addressing print is an unavoidable step in any organization's digital transformation.
